The Isle of Skye Brewing Company (Leann an Eilein) was established in April 1995. Production began in December 1995 in purpose-built premises at Uig, the ferry terminal for the Outer Hebrides. In April 1998 the brewery expanded into bottling at Uig.

Skye ales are made from only premium quality grains and hops; only natural ingredients are used. The attention to detail given in making the beers has been recognised in several awards at beer festivals throughout the UK.

There are now 10 real ale outlets on Skye and England is also served through wholesalers . A shop (seasonal) has been established at the brewery. Souvenirs are also provided on a mail order service. Tours are available, preferably by prior arrangement.


Isle of Skye Brewery Beers

 
BlavenABV 5% (OG 1050), is the strongest Skye ale. It is a deep golden-coloured ale, malty and full-bodied, with a fruity, hoppy character and a delightful aroma. It is brewed with pale ale and crushed crystal malts, Challenger and Fuggles hops.255b1.gif
Black CuillinABV 4.5% (OG 1044), a smooth, dark ale rich and full-bodied made from pale ale malt, roast barley and Challenger hops. Added rolled roast Scottish oatmeal gives an almost stout-like bitterness, smoothed by a touch of pure Scottish heather honey.255b2.gif
Hebridean GoldABV 4.3% (OG 1041.5), is a unique ale brewed with porridge oats, which provides a beer of exceptional smoothness, with a deep and creamy head. Short-listed in Champion Beer of Great Britain 2000.255b3.gif
Red CuillinABV 4.2% (OG 1041), Red Cuillin is named after the mountain range on Skye. A reddish-hued ale, slightly malty and nutty in character, smooth to taste. Made from pale ale malt, roast barley, crystal malt, Challenger and Fuggles hops and Skye springwater.255b4.gif
Young PretenderABV 4% (OG 1039), named after Bonnie Prince Charlie. A golden-hued ale, it is the driest Skye ale, lightly hopped, with a refreshing full flavour and an appealing aroma, resulting in a well-balanced beer with a subtle dry bitter finish.255b5.gif
